Sir George Grey, the Governor of Cape Colony from 1854 to 1861, made the decision that unifying the states of southern Africa can be mutually useful. The mentioned good reasons were being that he thought that political divisions involving the white-managed states "weakened them versus the natives", threatened an ethnic divide concerning British and
